Overall Concept Plan
A total of eight recommendations have been presented to the Village Trustees, DuPage County entities, key businesses, and community at large. While this remains the long term vision of theWinfield Riverwalk project, two recommendations, the West Branch extension and the Winfield Road Riverwalk trail will be the initial areas of focus. The remaining focuses include pedestrian improvements to sidewalks along Pleasant Hill, County Farm, and Jewel roads, as well as new trails along the Union Pacific connecting Lincoln Marsh to County Farm road, paths from the business center at County Farm and Rt. 38 to Beecher, bikeways from Lion’s Park to Rt. 38, and interpretive trails though Winfield Mounds. Timing on these projects is yet to be determined.
DuPage River –West Branch Extension
Re-alignment of an originally proposed regional trail bikeway that would have bypassed Winfield and instead makes a bikeway connection along the north side of Winfield municipal site connecting Wynwood Fields and Lions Park, as well as West Chicago to Winfield.
Town Center – Winfield Road
The core Winfield Riverwalk hugs the river to the east, and extends into the Town Center, where it makes a hairpin jog around the Union and Pacific rail crossing. This link will have a more urban look and feel. The northern stretch of the trail will also follow the river on the east, and will have multiple access points to Winfield road. This section of the trail will look more akin to the existing and surrounding bike paths.
