RIVER WALK AD-HOC COMMITTEE   

Village President Rudy Czech has created a new ad-hoc committee to study the prospect of developing a scenic Riverwalk along the west branch of the DuPage River.  The Riverwalk would provide pedestrians and bicyclists an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the water body and adjacent natural areas.  It is envisioned that the prospective Riverwalk would extend from the Illinois Prairie Path (north of Geneva Road) to High Lake Road in the downtown area of Winfield. The committee consists of of seven (7) persons, including one non-resident of Winfield. The committee will meet on at a monthly basis until the work is completed. The proposed goals of the committee include: 

• Studying the feasibility of creating the riverwalk;

• Meeting with appropriate DuPage County officials to determine their interest in cooperating and or participating in the development of the riverwalk;   

• Laying out a prospective route for the riverwalk;

• Establishing an understanding about the ecological issues that would be associated with the creation of the riverwalk and could impact its design;

• Working with Village staff on the potential costs for the construction of the riverwalk; 
  Exploring the opportunity for public and private financial assistance;

• And making final recommendations to the Village Board.
